If you’ve been following my blog, you’d know that Bangkok holds a special place in my heart. This is where I started my journey as a backpacker with my siblings, Krista, and Jose in 2013. Eventually, one road led me to another and now I am a crazy cat parent and full-time blogger together with my husband, Jonathan.
Anyway, I vowed to take my mom and my Lola (grandma) to a new country every year and this time, I decided to take them to Thailand. I think this is one of the best countries older people can visit because, in every corner, there are shopping malls, street food (which is all crazy delicious!), as well as temples. There’s no need to walk around so much here and if needed, it’s very easy to get tuk tuks and uber! My Lola enjoyed it!
My mom wanted to be independent for this trip and that means she wanted to explore on her own most of the time and stay at her own hotel. I think she wants to try solo backpacking too. Haha! Good thing Windsor Suites Hotel Bangkok was kind enough to host her for 5 days.
While my mom and Lola were out on a cruise and dinner at the Chai Phraya River with Tinggly Experiences, I went there to see the property myself with Krista and my full-time team members, Yvette and Mike. We had a property tour with them which ended in a sumptuous lunch at their restaurant, The Pizza Connection. We had some pizza, pasta, steak, and salmon made by their chef and it’s very delicious! It felt like we were in Italy and it’s a good break from eating Thai food since Day 1! :p
I think I made the best decision to choose Windsor Suites Hotel Bangkok and here’s why.
WHAT WE LOVED ABOUT WINDSOR SUITE HOTEL
It is very well located- right in the center of the Sukhumvit Area (which is like Ortigas in Manila), you’ll find yourself close to everything: Skytrain and Subway Stations, Emporium Shopping Mall, Thai Massage Places, EmQuartier Shopping Mall, and Terminal 21. Oh, did I say that all of which is walking a distance? Its location is perfect for all kinds of travelers!
The breakfast is superb- Bangkok is a busy city and trusts me, you wouldn’t want to leave your hotel without eating! There’s just plenty of things to see and you’ll walk a lot to the point that you’ll find yourself starving even way before lunchtime. The breakfast at this hotel is just amazing. You’ll get plenty of options from fresh fruit juices, a variety of fruits, yogurts, bacon, bread, cereals, desserts and of course, freshly brewed coffee.
The room is beautiful and it’s really huge- My mom was hosted in a corner suite that features a well-organized space including king-size beds with bedside control panel, flat-screen TV with international channels, air conditioning, refrigerator and coffee and tea making facilities. Mom’s favorite was the Japanese style toilet :p
They have 4 restaurants on site- I know you came here for the street food but this hotel serves good food too. They have The Cafe which serves International Cuisine, The Golden Palace for Chinese food, Terrace 18, and our favorite– Italian food from the Pizza Connection (must try!)
They have excellent facilities- I know there will be days that you would just want to stay in and rest for your vacation and there’s no better way to do it than just lounge at their pool, get a massage in their spa, or sweat it all out at their fitness center.
You can get special offers- Book directly from their website and you might just get up to 40% off from their best available rate. Yay!
The staff are very hospitable- My mom had such a pleasant stay, thanks to their very helpful staff who made sure that everything was smooth from check-in to check-out. Too bad I wasn’t able to meet them because of my legs but my mom gave them a 2 thumbs up!
Overall, I think this hotel is the best if you’re looking for something with a strategic location, hospitable staff, and very good facilities all at a very affordable rate.
WHAT TO DO AROUND THE AREA
Eat a lot of street food!!!- A lot of people go to Bangkok just to eat food and honestly, it’s not hard to see why. I’m crazy about it too! They have a lot of food options and they’re all very affordable. The only thing I dislike about it is the insane amount of plastic that they use.
Go shopping- Just like food, clothes are also everywhere. Not only are they affordable, but they’re also made of very good materials too. If you want to shop in malls, the most famous ones are MBK Center, Siam Paragon, Terminal 21, and ICONSiam, among many others.
Have a meal at Pizza Connection- If you’re tired of eating street food, then go Italian and try the delicious pizza, pasta, steak and salmon dish at Pizza Connection located at Windsor Suites Hotel Bangkok. It is insanely delicious!
Get a Thai Massage- This is our favorite thing to do here and in fact, we had it almost every night! My mom and Lola were very much happy knowing that it’s very cheap too! For a more authentic experience, try to get this Authentic Thai Massage Experience At Wat Pho Temple From Tinggly Experiences. Apparently, this is exactly the place where Thai Massage was invented.
Have a cruise and dinner at the Chao Phraya River– Enjoy a sunset or evening cruise along the iconic Chao Phraya River complete with full-on entertainment in the form of live Kim-style music and classical dancing. Also, feast on a delicious banquet, with a choice of appetizers, mains, and desserts like what members of the Thai Royal Family do! 🙂
Spend a day at Chatuchak Market- Whether you want to spend the day shopping or eating, Chatuchak Market is the place to be! This is such a huge market place where you can find basically everything from clothes, bags, porcelain, jewelry, home decor and even furniture. This is the place to be!
Go temple hopping- Go to Wat Pho to see the famous Reclining Buddha, Wat Mahatat which is one of ten first-class royal temples in Thailand, and Wat Arun also known as The Temple of Dawn.
For everyone traveling with their parents or grandparents, know that Bangkok is the place to be! If you have any questions about this, let me know and I’ll be glad to help! 🙂
